Subject: Digital-to-analog converter boxes, box coupons
When the CEA spoke to congress, they stated that the
converter boxes should sell for around $50. There is
a chance that they may need to cost a little more than
that, but the price is expected to be reasonable.
Please do NOT put any restrictions on what the converter
box should or should not be.
If you place maximum power operating and standby limits of
these boxes, like 10 W running & 1 W standby, the price
will be higher and this goes against what congress wanted
in the first place.
If a buyer wants to pay more for a box with deluxe features,
it should be their choice and not a predefined choice made
for them. Thus, if someone wants S-Video output OR a program
guide in a deluxe box, the $40 coupon should apply. Likewise
if they wish to pay more for an energy saving model, it
should be their choice and the $40 would still apply.
I would also hope that the time period where one can obtain
the coupon would be extended from March 31, 2009 to December
31,
2009. Chances are that many people won't understand what
they need until their TV goes blank on February 17, 2009.
The March 31, 2009 does not give them a whole lot of time to
find out about the program and get a coupon.
Sincerely,
Robert D. Diaz
