Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth (OICG)

NTIA’s Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth (OICG) supports a future where everyone in America is connected to high-speed internet service; enabling each person to fully participate in the modern, digital society by accessing opportunities and information available online. To achieve this vision, OICG facilitates broadband deployment, access, and adoption through a whole-of-government approach with other institutions that invest in broadband, including federal agencies, states, Tribal nations, and the private sector.

OICG manages NTIA’s implementation of several broadband grant programs totaling nearly $50 billion. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, passed in November 2021, included more than $65 billion to invest in closing the digital divide in our country, of which NTIA is accountable for administering more than $45 billion for the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD), Enabling Middle Mile Infrastructure, and the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program initiatives. NTIA is also administering $1.6 billion authorized by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, including the initial Tribal Broadband Connectivity Grant program, the Broadband Infrastructure Deployment Grant program, and the Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program. The legislation also requires NTIA to implement the provisions of the ACCESS Broadband Act. These monumental investments provided a significant opportunity for OICG to expand high-speed internet access across the country.

OICG also manages the BroadbandUSA program, the National Broadband Availability Map (NBAM), the Office of Minority Broadband Initiatives (OMBI) and supports Federal interagency broadband coordination efforts. These initiatives help to further the deployment, adoption, and use of broadband technology, which lays the groundwork for sustainable economic growth, improved education, public safety, health care, and the advancement of other national priorities.

In the past, OICG (formerly OTIA) also administered the following grant programs:
