Technology has a role in education, of course. But it should support learning, not fuel distraction or unhealthy habits. That is what today’s listening session is designed to explore. We want a clear picture of how technology is being used in school, the consequences for kids’ health, development, and learning, and how parents can be empowered on their children’s screen use. We want to understand commercial incentives in the ed tech marketplace, how procurement decisions are made, and how federal programs and policies may be influencing those choices. We also want to hear about the treatment of children’s data by ed tech platforms, including how and to what extent such data is shared with third parties.

NTIA is launching an effort to put children first when it comes to school-based technology use. Our job is not to dictate education policy but to examine where federal policies, subsidies, and market dynamics may be pushing schools toward more screens—often without asking whether it helps children learn. And before we do anything else, we’re listening.

Speech/Testimony
These opening months of the Trump Administration represent a dramatic shift in America’s spectrum policy—a pivot from plans to action. Together with our federal partners, we’re driving hard to meet the spectrum targets in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, or OB3. Identifying two hundred megahertz to make available for mobile broadband in two years is our first target; beating it is the ambition.
Speech/Testimony
In AI, NTIA’s vision is just that of the Administration’s: we want the United States-led AI to power the future. Of work, of recreation, of life. And second, and more specifically at NTIA: We want to ensure that the United States leads, together with secure and trusted global partners, in the next generation of connectivity, 6G.
