High-Speed Internet
NTIA engages in a range of efforts to increase broadband internet access in America, which supports economic growth, job creation, and improved education, health care, and public safety. NTIA’s BroadbandUSA program serves states, territories, Tribal governments, communities, industry and nonprofits that want to expand broadband infrastructure. BroadbandUSA’s efforts are driven by the needs and interests of state and local government broadband leaders and focus on encouraging partnerships, supporting planning efforts, and helping to identify funding to advance broadband access. NTIA also conducts research and analysis into broadband usage and adoption through our Internet Use Survey.
Why High-Speed Internet Matters
Maximizing Access to and Savings for Education
High-speed internet service is important for students to access quality education and training to be globally competitive. They use the internet for homework assignments, for research, and to apply to college and trade and vocational schools. Students without Internet access at home can fall behind, impacting the competitiveness of our future workforce.
Stimulating Growth in the Economy
By connecting the workplace, we can better connect businesses to consumers and provide the foundation for enterprises to start, grow, and flourish. Broadband connects businesses to new markets, which can increase sales and create jobs. High-speed Internet helps American businesses better compete for talent and business in the global marketplace. And it helps workers connect to good paying jobs, wherever they might live.
