NTIA Administrator Strickling Issues Statement Following FCC Action on 3.5 GHz Band

WASHINGTON –  Following up on NTIA's recommendation from our 2010 Fast-Track evaluation and last year's spectrum report of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted today in its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposals that would open the door to an additional 100 megahertz of spectrum for broadband services, while recognizing and respecting the critical missions performed by federal agencies in the band.

"I am pleased that the FCC is taking the next crucial step toward implementing a new vision of wireless spectrum access in the 3.5 GHz band, a vision that embraces the sharing of spectrum between federal agencies and the commercial sector," said Lawrence E. Strickling, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator.  "The Commission clearly recognizes and respects the critical missions performed by federal agencies in this band and presents a balanced set of proposals for dynamically sharing spectrum resources with federal agencies."
