WASHINGTON – The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) received more than 500 written comments in response to its Kids Online Health & Safety Request for Comment.
The comments are available to the public via Regulations.gov.
As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Task Force on Kids Online Health & Safety, NTIA and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), along with other agencies, are working to promote the health, safety and privacy of minors online by identifying and mitigating the potential adverse health effects of online platforms.
NTIA issued the request for comment in September to gather more information about social media and online platforms’ impacts on minors, current industry practices, and ways in which the private sector, caregivers and the U.S. government may counter negative effects.
The responses will help inform the Kids Online Health and Safety Task Force’s work in developing voluntary guidance, policy recommendations, and a toolkit on safety-, health- and privacy-by-design for industry to apply in developing digital products and services.
