WASHINGTON – The Task Force on Kids Online Health & Safety, led by the Department of Health and Human Services, in close partnership with the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), held its inaugural meeting on Monday. The Biden-Harris Administration launched this task force to advance the health, safety and privacy of minors online.

“The increasing number of young people diagnosed with anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions is concerning,” said Miriam E. Delphin-Rittmon, Ph.D., HHS Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use and the leader of SAMHSA. “The goal of this task force is to advance the health, safety and privacy of people online with particular attention to preventing and mitigating the adverse health effects of online platforms on minors.”

“As we work to bring millions of families online, NTIA is committed to building a better Internet, especially for children,” said Alan Davidson, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator. “In collaboration with HHS and other agencies, NTIA will examine how to prevent the adverse health effects that online platforms can have on minors — while also exploring how positive experiences online can help young people. We will also examine opportunities to use Digital Equity Act funds to support children harmed by online exploitation, harassment and abuse. NTIA will continue to promote a safe, private, secure, and open Internet for everyone.”
