TBCP Awards

The Village of Clarks Point concluded their use and adoption project and successfully provided computing equipment to Tribal members. They also provided pre-payment for monthly Internet service to achieve a reliable Internet connection for telework, school, communication, and/or telemedicine.

Metlakatla Power and Light completed their Environmental Assessment and received a Finding of No Significant Impact from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Therefore, Metlakatla Power and Light began to install 2.1 miles of electric and fiber-optic submarine cable and 14 miles of overhead fiber lines within the Annette Island Reserve and to and from the mainland community of Ketchikan. When complete, this project will connect more than 500 unserved Alaska Native homes.

In May 2023, Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP) staff attended the Indigenous Connectivity Summit 2023 in Anchorage, where they met with and provided technical assistance to Alaska Native Tribal leaders and other stakeholders in the Alaska region.

TBCP staff assisted in the planning of U.S. First Lady Jill Biden’s visit to the Bethel Region in May 2023, where she highlighted TBCP awards to multiple eligible entities including the Hoonah Indian Association.
