Re: 1998 Biennial Regulatory Review - Review of Accounts Settlement in the Maritime Mobile and Maritime Mobile-Satellite Radio Services and Withdrawal of the Commission as an Accounting Authority in the Maritime Mobile and Maritime Mobile-Satellite Radio Services, IB Docket No. 98-96.

Dear Ms. Salas:

NTIA applauds the Commission in its efforts to identify potential terrestrial wireless and satellite policy initiatives to address the telecommunications needs of Indians living on tribal lands and to consumers in other unserved areas.

NTIA submitted a petition for rulemaking to amend the national table of frequency allocations to provide an allocation status for U.S. Government (Federal) earth stations communicating with non-federal satellites.

Comments by the Acting Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information regarding the FCC Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Recommendations of the Independent Panel Reviewing the Impact of Hurricane Katrina on Communications Networks, EB Docket No. 06-119

NTIA requested that the FCC deny PacifiCorp's request for a waiver of Part 80 rules to permit the use of maritime frequencies for private land mobile communications.

The Acting Assistant Secretary sent a letter to the FCC Chairman notifying him that the President's U.S. National Space Policy supports the objective of NTIA's petition for a rulemaking to obtain allocation status for federal earth stations using non-federal satellites.
