NTIA Comments on Use of the Automatic Identification System
NTIA, on behalf of the Executive Branch, hereby comments in response to the Commission’s recent Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the above-referenced proceeding. As discussed in more detail in the attached letter from the U.S. Coast Guard to NTIA, maritime safety requires that the use of radio devices produced for the Automatic Identification System be limited to their intended use – which does not currently include marking fishing equipment.

The Spectrum Needs of U.S. Space-Based Operations: An Inventory of Current and Projected Uses
The United States is a global leader in the development and deployment of advanced, space-based technologies. Yet there is relatively little public awareness of the scope and scale or the economic benefits of these space-based technologies and even less recognition of the core public resource needed to operate and support them: radio-frequency spectrum. This report aims to provide basic information that will help increase public understanding of the scope and value of these space-based operations and the importance of their access to spectrum.
Notice of Broadband Grant Programs Webinar Series
NTIA will host webinars in connection with the three new broadband grant programs authorized and funded by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021: The Broadband Infrastructure Program, the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program, and the Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program. NTIA Comments Regarding 24 GHz Emission Limits
NTIA, in response to the Federal Communication Commission’s Public Notice and on behalf of NOAA and NASA, urges the FCC in these formal comments to harmonize its domestic 24 GHz “out-of-band” emission limits (OOBE limits) with those adopted at the 2019 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19). These new OOBE limits, as adopted at WRC-19, would provide for a two-step approach, with an interim stage lasting through September 2027 when more stringent limits would be imposed. NTIA further recommended that the FCC encourage wireless licensees to comply with the more stringent limit
