Since 1994, NTIA has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to survey American households on their computer and Internet use, with questions that have been updated over time to reflect changing technologies and applications. We ask about locations of Internet use, devices people use to go online, the types of online activities in which they take part, their views on privacy and security, and why some do not use the Internet.

NTIA, as the President’s principal adviser on domestic and international telecommunications policies, and on behalf of federal agency purchasers of telecommunications services, respectfully comments on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in this proceeding. NTIA supports the Commission’s proposals for streamlining the section 214 process by which Title II-regulated carriers may discontinue service. We suggest ways to ensure that the discontinuance and copper retirement processes can accommodate the needs of federal communications users.

Governor's Opt-Out Notice To Conduct State Radio Access Network

The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 requires a Governor of a State to notify the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of a State's decision to opt-out of participation in the deployment of the nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN) as proposed by FirstNet and to conduct its own deployment of a Radio Access Network in the State. This Notice provides instructions for such “opt-out” notices to NTIA.
