Envisioning an Equitable, Inclusive, Connected America

Fostering Technical Careers

The Connecting Minority Communities (CMC) Pilot Program provided over $12 million to four Arizona colleges that serve minority and Tribal communities to hire and train IT and digital literacy personnel.

Staffing Arizona with BEAD and Digital Equity Funding

The State Broadband Office (SBO) increased staff capacity for Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) and Digital Equity planning and execution through a mix of full-time employees, contractors, and interagency coordination with the Governor’s Office.

Executive Declarations

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs declared broadband a priority and issued a call to Public Engagement for Arizona. In 2023, Governor Hobbs established the Interagency and Community Broadband Advisory Council to help support strategic broadband deployment in Arizona.

Arizona Tribal Consultation

In 2023, the Governor’s Administration held its first Tribal consultation, which focused on broadband and digital equity.

Connecting Unserved and Underserved Homes

The SBO awarded $100 million in Capital Project Fund (CPF) broadband grants from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which will serve an estimated 100,000 unserved and underserved locations.

This additional funding formed an integral component of the diverse range of measures used by the federal government to tackle the digital divide. These measures are part of the Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth's (OICG) overall strategy to connect everyone in America to high-speed Internet.

Resiliency In the Home or Making the Home Connection Affordable

As of June 2023, 423,299 eligible households in Arizona were enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).18 In addition, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) awarded four National and Tribal Competitive Outreach Grants to organizations in Arizona for a total of $1.8 million.

The FCC’s ACP Grant Program forms an integral component of the diverse range of measures used by the federal government to tackle the digital divide. These measures are part of OICG’s overall strategy to connect everyone in America to high-speed Internet.
